Composting

The latest agricultural trends show disappointing data on soil conditions.  Soil fertility has deteriorated several times throughout Europe, including in Latvia.  The main indicator of this is the decrease in the diversity and number of microorganisms in the soil over the past 30 years. The most effective way to return microorganisms to the soil is to use compost to improve the soil.  If composting is done correctly, a significant improvement can be achieved in just two years. Composting can be done on the small or large field area. We have confirmed this by visiting farms in Austria and Switzerland, where this practice has been in use for more than five years.  However, it should be understood that for a good result, everything must be done correctly. How is it correctly?  In the spring of 2025, we will also start trying it on our farm, where we plan to set up test fields for different crops.  We hope that in a couple of years we will be able to share our composting experience.  Whether and to what extent composting helps improve soil and plant health, reduce disease and pests, and reduce the use of purchased fertilizers.  But for now, we invite you to learn and try it out with us.
